My new best friend...

...is Lisa Loeb. She has a new show on E! called #1 Single (Sunday nights at 10pm). That's a play on the fact that she is a musician and newly single. The plot of this 30 minute show, is that she is single for the first time in 12 years and wants to find Mr. Right. She is in NYC at the end of her tour and meets up with her sister (who I might add dresses like a slut and obviously has to ride in on Lisa's coattails-see link) to go clothes shopping. Her sister is picking out all these clothes that Lisa describes as, "What the trampy girls in LA wear." And her sister replies, "That may be but its not pink and does not involve any stuffed animals." (or something along those lines).

Alot of Lisa's friends try to convince her that NY is THE place to meet men, much better than LA so she should really consider moving back there. After some self-reflection, mostly in the form of realizing that she has spent all her life running away from her suburban childhood, she decides to move to NY for the rest of the year where she can work on her new record and meet Mr. Right. As she says, she is living the suburban-like life that she has been running away from, however, "..without the 4 kids. But I do have lots of Hello Kitty and gnomes." (LOVE HER!) She is tired of "maybes and wants babies."

Before she officially leaves for NY, Lisa goes over to her friend Pamela DeBarr's house for a blind date. The guy is nice enough, though has a long winded conversation about never eating vegetables...ever, and getting his fiber from a pill. In a moment where we all cringe with Lisa, they start karoake where the guy actually sings Lisa's hit, Stay. We all want to melt into the couch with her.

As groan and eye rolling inducing as this show seemed like, it is actually a winner! Its a quick 30 minutes and is funny, entertaining and I think a show that a lot of women will relate to. And even though Lisa is very LA in some ways, i.e has a personal tailor, goes to red carpet store openings and is friends with Pamela DeBarr, we love her because she has a pink refridgerator and mixer, and cries over having to push that rock back up the hill while she makes kugel with her mom.

Now that I will have CABLE I'll be able to watch! I almost ran Lisa Loeb over once in the alley behind the Paradise. I was going to her show and was freaked out because I couldn't find parking so I was flying through the alley. She came walking out to go to her van and I almost took her out. hahaha. Ok, it's funny because I didn't actually hit her.

i once saw lisa loeb w/ her then-bf, dweezil zappa (i think they were bf/gf, right? they had some cooking show together on the food network!) at clark's on lincoln in chicago on valentine's day two years ago when i was dating jim...we were chowing down on yummy omelets, clark's north shore potatoes, and the best dang coffee...and, ummm - sorry, distracted by food! haha. anyway, so all of the sudden jim was like "oh my god, it's dweezil zappa!" to which i added "AND lisa loeb you idiot!" he didn't notice. wtf? hell-o, it's lisa eff'n loeb!!! i wanted to go up & say something to them, but i also didn't want to seem like a crazy stalker fan. and jim wouldn't let me. instead i just stared at them for 20 second intervals the whole time we were there. i think they noticed. :)

Lisa holds the distinction of being one of the few clients that I decided to drop - I wish her well and all, but feel much better off not working with her. Dropping her wasn't too bad since I ended up signing with Tracy Bonham, who is a million times easier to work with. All I'm saying is I can sympathize with Dweezil for bailing.

nah - not biter ... she was just rather difficult to work with.

regarding the word on the street, well i think people should make up their own mind based on their own experience - and high school was over some twenty years ago - sheesh!

the redd kross story was quite groovy though, fyi steven just finished playing bass on the new Sparks record and will be on the road with them in Europe in February, hopefully they will do some US gigs too.

ok what i just got was a most pathetic attempt at a prank phone call about lisa loeb's site. that wasn't even funny, it was just stooopid. i can appreciate a prank when it's actually funny, but this was just plain retarded.
